My Italian Family
Hostaria Vecchia
In this episode...
Influenced by Proust’s writings of ‘À la recherche du temps perdu’ or as he interprets, ‘Remembrance of Things Past’ Massimo Magoni believes that what runs in his DNA led him to realise his passion for food. Coming from two generations of restaurateurs it can be said that Massimo has "catering in the blood", although he started his career on a different path. At thirty years old Massimo was an engineer in a multinational in Milan, but he dreamt of honouring what ‘ran in his veins’. Today, in his trattoria Hostaria Vecchia, located on the Italian Riviera in the small village of Rapallo, Massimo cooks the authentic flavours learnt in his nonna’s and mother’s kitchens. This is the story of a man’s remembrance and honouring of the past, his passion for food, his dream of cooking enticing plates of food for his guests, and remaining true to himself and his family - this is why he does what he does.
