My Italian Family
La Pietra
In this episode...
When a parent dies, the rest of the family struggles to go on. When the parent that dies is the mother whose restaurant has been in the family since 1821 then the struggle becomes insurmountable. Giancarlo and his father Piero have managed to find a way forward without their beloved Mimma. The small restaurant La Pietra in the tiny town of Roccalbegna, Tuscany appears as an oasis in an otherwise quiet village. Carlo is a gentle soul, idealistic, thoughtful and the pain of losing his mother, his teacher, is palpable. Mimma comes to him in a dream and tells him he must document her family recipes before they are forgotten. Just when Carlo and Piero find their rhythm, the unimaginable happens. The story of La Pietra is heart breaking.
