My Italian Family
Il Latini
In this episode...
In Florence there are thousands of fancy and chic restaurants and Il Latini is not one of them! Set in a small alley right in the heart of the city, this trattoria has fed the people of Italy since 1911 and the menu has not changed. The three members of the Latini family that run the trattoria work extremely hard and with their close-knit team feed up to five hundred people a day. When the doors open the patrons stream in and are told “sit over there’, often next to complete strangers. Friendships are forged and stomachs are filled underneath hundreds of legs of hanging prosciutti. Emelia is an only child and the pressure is on her to keep this Florentine institution open. She is willing and able but is pained that it stops with her. Il Latini is a story of hardships, survival, continuity and family love.
